Thank you!

Thank you! For 90 years, the FWO has created a favorable climate for scientific research. To celebrate this we have created on Friday 14 December 2018 in the Flanders Meeting & Convention Center Antwerp for one day the perfect habitat for our founders of knowledge.

With more than 1,250 participants, we were proudly able to name Knowledge Makers the largest scientific congress in Belgium.
Your massive attendance made something very clear to us. We will continue to support and finance your fundamental, ground-breaking and strategic scientific research.

We hope to see you again at the next Knowledge Makers.

You can choose from a wide range of thematic sessions:

Scientific research

Get to know what’s at the core of this Knowledge Makers event: a full and rich scientific programme that covers the major challenges before us as a society. National and international experts address subjects such as health and well-being, the digital society, the circular economy and Artificial Intelligence.

Scientific debate

Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), open science, valorising research, and several more subjects … The scientific debate sessions respond to the hot issues that are keeping you and your colleagues awake at night.

This is science too

Research can be fun and enjoyable. These sessions about science, poetry and the recycling of urine will give you a taste of what’s possible.

Flemish science agenda

Will we ever be able to teleport ourselves from A to B? When will we discover all possible chess combinations? Will robots ever be able to think creatively and make art? These are just 3 of the 10,559 questions that the Flemish population sent in as part of Vraag voor de wetenschap (or ‘Question for Science’ in English). With this campaign, we are looking for the answers that are on the minds of the Flemish population today and which they would like to have answered by the scientific world. We are using them to put together a Flemish Science Agenda. In the coming years, Flemish scientists will attempt to respond to all these questions. During the opening session of this event, we will be handing them all to Minister Philippe Muyters. In the thematic sessions, we will present some of the most striking questions.

Scientific communication is becoming increasingly important in your work as a researcher. Follow these hands-on workshops to sharpen your skills.
