Wouter De Ploey
Wouter De Ploey is a Director in the Business Technology Office of McKinsey & Company. Since joining the Firm in 1992 he has been focusing primarily on financial services. He serves banks, insurance companies and service providers on strategic, organizational and operational issues. He currently leads the European Payments working group of the European Banking & Securities practice and was editor of its recent publications “Payments: profiting from an industry in flux” and “Payments: Charting a course to profits” and he serves on the editorial board of “McKinsey on Payments”. After helping European banks converge towards a common roadmap to create a ‘Single Euro Payments Area’, he has advanced into an established authority on the matter, with a much requested involvement in SEPA-related discussions throughout Europe.
Within McKinsey Wouter is also Global Learning Leader for Business Technology, in charge of all technology related training across the Firm (close to 100 training events). In this capacity he also leads the annual introductory functional training for all new engagement managers (more than 700 a year) which is organized on the campus of Cambridge University in collaboration with the Judge Business School Wouter De Ploey holds a BA in Economics and in Philosophy of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and a MA and PhD in Economics of the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Prior to joining the Firm he did internships at the World Bank, GATT (now WTO), Generale Bank and Paribas Bank. He is a fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation and was a Researcher of the National Fund for Scientific Research (NFWO). He regularly gives guest lectures on strategy at different Belgian universities.
Wouter is married and has three daughters. His hobbies include art, education and fashion. He is a board member of the Flanders Fashion Institute (FFI) and the Hogeschool Universiteit Brussel (HUB).
