Commission for Educational Exchange (Fulbright Commission)
Annually, the Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States of America, Belgium and Luxembourg, provides 8-12 partial Fulbright grants to Belgians scholars wishing to go to the United States for post-doctoral research in any field of study. Grants are for a minimum period of 3 months, maximum one year, in a maximum of two different U.S. institutions. Departures are authorized between the period August 1st and March 31st. The amount of the award will depend on the scholar’s other resources: continuing salary from his/her home institution, funding from the FWO, or funding from the U.S. host institution.
Eligibility: candidates must be in possession of the doctoral degree before departure and must arrange their own affiliation with an accredited American university or research institution. Interested candidates should complete the Preliminary Application, available on the Commission’s web site (www.fulbright.be) and send it to the Commission well in advance of the March 1st deadline. If found to be eligible, the candidate will receive the final application forms that must be returned to the Commission by March 1st, 2009 for projects during the academic year 2009-10.
Individuals interested in conducting research on U.S.-E.U. relations or EU affairs can also apply through us for the Fulbright-Schuman Program, funded by the U.S. State Department and the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission. A preliminary application, together with a CV and a short description of the proposed research, is also required well in advance of the March 1st final application deadline. For the Fulbright-Schuman Program, complete applications are due here by March 1st, 2009, for projects during the academic year 2009-10.
